Block-of-the-Month
Polish off your skills with our Block of the Month Raffle. Each month, we will
feature a different block, different construction method and/or different fabric.
Entering is as easy as one-two-three!
- Pick up the directions for the block at the monthly guild meeting
and take them home. Sometimes there will be a piece of fabric or other
handout to use in making the block, so remember to get that as well. Plus
there will be samples to examine to get you psyched.
- Make as many Block-of-the-Month Blocks as you like. Usually all you
will need is fabric from your stash. The more blocks you make, the more
times you can place your name in the fish bowl for a chance to be drawn as
the winner!
- Bring your block(s) to the next meeting and sign in for the drawing.
The winner is announced during the guild meeting and takes home a stack of
blocks, ready to make a quilt top.
Fat Quarter Raffle
The Fat Quarter Raffle has been discontinued.
Mystery Quilt
No Mystery Quilt this year. Past mysteries and other quilt instructions can be
found on our Projects page.
Block Box Exchanges
A Block Box Exchange allows you to help other quilters build blocks to make a
quilt. Put it in a box and you've added suspense and intrigue to the mix.
There will be two Box Exchanges this yearone of pieced blocks, and one
for paper-pieced blocks. You may sign up to participate in either, or both.
To participate:
- Sign up and pay your entry fee ($2 to cover the cost of the box) at the
September meeting.
- Choose a block design and make up a sample block in the colors and style
of your choice.
- Put the block, along with instructions how to make it, your guidelines for
color and fabrics, and any fabrics which will used all in a bag and bring
to the October meeting. This packet will be placed in a numbered box. You
will not know the number of your box or that of anyone else.
- Each month, look at the chart we will provide and take home the number box
indicated. Make one or more blocks according to the directions inside the box
and return everything to the next monthly guild meeting.
- For the May meeting each person will pin the blocks in the box to a piece
of muslin in order to display at the meeting. At the end of the meeting each
person will get back their original box of blocks
- After the blocks are displayed at the May meeting, every participant will get
her original box back with a total of 8 (or more) blocks to make a quilt top.
Do's and Don'ts
- DO choose a block that finishes between 8" and 14" that is not too complex.
Remember there will be quilters of all skill levels participating and it
shouldn't take anyone all month long to make your block!
- DON'T use blocks that require paper piecing, curved seams or appliqué.
(We will have separate paper piecing box exchange.)
- DO specify a color scheme and/or fabric type. The sky's the limit: request
batiks, thirties, calico, plaids and stripes, Amish solids, Red, white and
blues. Or conversely you can suggest participants avoid fabrics like
metallics, plaids, juveniles, etc. Be specific!
- DO realize this will be a SCRAPPY quilt. Provide fabrics at your own
discretion! We want everyone to have the fun of selecting different fabrics
to work with each month.
- DO state if you would like participants to make more than one blockthis
is OK if you have a very simple block. Remember, making more that one block
is always at the discretion of the monthly participants.
- DO NOT include any identifying information in the packetthis exchange
will be anonymous until the May unveiling!
Beginners, we welcome you to participate. More details at the September meeting.
